We are glad that the pop diva is safe and has made a speedy physical recovery. At the same time, having narrowly survived the horrors of this incident, might she at some time in the future consider having her body insured?

Mariah Carey, $1 Billion Legs:
In 2006, Mariah Carey's legs were insured for this astronomical amount before the start of a tour. Tours can be physically risky, so it definitely pays for a star of this caliber to think ahead.

Heidi Klum, $2.2 Million Legs:
In 2008, supermodel and wife of music superstar Seal had her legs insured for $2.2 million. An odd twist to the story is that one leg is insured for $200,000 less than the other. Why? "They are different values because I have this little scar. I had to be examined in London. A guy came and inspected my leg," says the Victoria's Secret spokeswoman.

The owner of these legs was the top star of her era, earning $300,000 per film.

Betty Grable, $1 Million Legs:
One of the first Hollywood stars to famously have a body part insured, Fox Studios had Betty Grable's gams protected in the late 1940s for what would be almost $9 million today. Seems like a fair trade!

David Beckham, $70 Million Legs & Feet:
Soccer superstar and paparazzi favorite David Beckham would not be where he is today without his lower half. But if anything ever happened to his bottom parts, is it really worth a $70 million pay day? And what are the premiums on a policy like that?

As the stories in this gallery demonstrate, the idea of insuring one's face (for instance) is actually quite common for a celebrity who knows what he or she is worth. One can be adored for one's legs like Tina Turner, or worshiped for the derriere, like La Lopez. Many insurance companies, most notably Lloyd's of London, have made it their business to help stars secure their famous body parts in case of harm. Celebrity body part insurance may sound silly, but based on recent terrifying events, it may be a very smart thing. You make the call.

The economy is withering away and you want to talk about body part insurance on celebrities? What about healthcare insurance to non-celebrities?

When health insurance costs $19 to $45 a month like cable, internet, etc.... then you have a point. Otherwise, get off your pretentious "priorities, please" high horse.

TeYoJe (what kind of name is THAT?) those of us lucky enough to have health insurance worked our A**ES off to afford it. Why haven't you? Quit thinking that someone OWES you something. We owe you NOTHING, nor does the government. Any health care our esteemed Pres. puts through will come wholly from the pockets of those of us who are taxpayers. There's no free lunch (except maybe for your kids, which wouldn't surprise me, either). Time to quit living on the dole.

LORD LORD LORD !!!!!!!!! Is this all we can talk about. Who cares if celebs insure their body parts or not, it is not benifiting us poor people at all. What do we get out of it. We need insurance for ourselves Whole body not parts. If you got enough $$$$$$$'s you can insure whatever you want. Its the working and non working people that need to be insured .

But everyone is getting so mad, what they don't understand is YOU ARE PAYING FOR THIS INSURANCE!!!! Everytime you go pay $8-9 to see a movie or $60-70 for a ticket to a sports game you are paying these people. Don't complain about how much money they make and what they spend it on, STOP GIVING IT TO THEM!!! Give your money to programs that help insure poor people instead and feel good about yourself instead of going out to the movies this weekend. Until then don't get mad because you help them buy their insurance. You are now helping them instead of the poor people. Or maybe you could be spending that money towards your own insurance instead of giving it to them. THINK

Hey simple fix......get a job!!! Or my favorite is people who say "I just can't afford health insurance." Then they pull the $40,000 SUV in to the three car garage at the home they took a 30 year 100% mortgage on. You can afford it you just decided fancy cars and a large home is more important.
